Danica Patrick concluded her final full-time NASCAR Cup Series season with Stewart-Haas Racing in a familiar fashion:

Crashed out.

Sunday’s Ford EcoBoost 400 marked the 11th time in 2017 that Patrick would be credited with a DNF. Many of them were due to mechanical issues or getting caught up in someone else’s problems. On Sunday, it was contact with the turn four wall that created a fender rub and eventually cut a tire.

Patrick cut the tire a few laps later and hit the wall in turn two. Kasey Kahne couldn’t slow down and was collected in the incident.

„I hit the wall in (turns) three and four and got some fender rub on the tire and it blew the tire,“ Patrick said. „I went a couple of laps and there was smoke in the car, but they thought it was all right, but it wasn’t.“

Patrick announced on Friday that she was leaving full-time racing after the 2017 season. She will only run two more races before likely retirement — the Daytona 500 and Indianapolis 500.

„What I’m not looking forward to is I have to go sit in my bus and wait for everyone to get done with the race before I can go home,“ Patrick said with a laugh. „That sucks, but I think that what’s coming ahead is bright for me and for the way it feels, so I’m excited.“
